What is the daily parish schedule at St. James?

During the morning, Daily Mass is said in many languages. Mass said in English is typically at 10AM or noon on Sundays and feast days.

Adoration is in the small chapel daily from 2-5PM

Fr. Leon and other special guests will often give talks to any pilgrims who would like to attend. These talks are always announced at Daily Mass.

What is the itinerary for a Medjugorje Paloma Pilgrimage?

Pilgrims often ask us what to expect on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. While Medjugorje is always peaceful and prayerful, the exact schedule can sometimes be unpredictable. Much of what we do is dependent on the weather, the time of year, and the parish schedule, and each pilgrimage is full of unexpected opportunities and surprises.

That said, even though the times and days of our schedule may change, there are many plans in Medjugorje we are always sure to have and sites we will always see. Click here to read an example itinerary of a Medjugorje Paloma Pilgrimage.

What is the weather like?

Medjugorje has a mild, Mediterranean climate. The temperatures are most comfortable in the spring and fall. It can get quite warm in August.

What should I wear?

Pack at least one complete outfit in your carry on luggage in case your checked bag is delayed.

You will need a good pair of walking shoes.

Around the church area, the parish recommends that everyone wear clothing that covers both their knees and shoulders. It can be helpful to bring a scarf to cover your shoulders for Mass. It's acceptable to wear jeans and hiking clothes to Mass.

We recommend wearing layers as the evenings can be cooler once the sun sets.

What else should I pack?

You need a valid passport. It must be valid for at least three months past your planned date of departure from Croatia or Bosnia Herzegovina.

You may need a rosary, devotional book/journal, rain gear, sunscreen, bath soaps/toiletries, an adapter or converter (we provide these for Paloma Pilgrimages), a flashlight if you plan to climb the hills at night.

Can I do laundry in Medjugorje?

We recommend that you bring enough clean clothing for your whole stay in Medjugorje. Laundry facilities are not available in your hotel. There is a coin laundry near the church that you can go to by taxi.

What currency is used in Medjugorje?

Euros are the easiest currency to use in Medjugorje. The local currency is the Bosnian Mark, but most places in Medjugorje accept US dollars and Euros. We recommend bringing small bills. There is an ATM outside of the post office, next to the church. It will give you the local currency which is Bosnian Marks.

Are there any particular shops with unique souvenirs?

Some of our favorite shops are the Franciscan bookstore next to St. James (the proceeds support the parish) and the gift shop at Cenacolo (the men in the community handmade the items and the proceeds support their community) and the gift shop at Mother’s Village (the children in the school handmade the items there and the proceeds support the orphanage).

If you are interested in the way of the cross meditation guide that Miki uses on Cross Mountain, you can find it in the gift shop at Mother’s Village. All proceeds from the gift shop support the orphanage.

When and where can I get religious articles blessed?

Religious articles are blessed after the Evening Mass.

There is a special blessing of salt, oil, and St. Benedict medals after English Mass on Saturdays.

Where can I put my prayer petitions?

There are many places to leave your petitions in Medjugorje. The Information Center for St. James church has a basket for petitions. At Mirjana’s hotel, there is a basket for petitions in her front room by the entrance. Cenacolo has tables to write your petitions and drop them there. The Cenacolo community will pray for your intentions as they climb with them up Apparition Hill.

To have a Mass said for someone, go up the stairs to the rectory next to the church.

Is Medjugorje an approved apparition?

The apparitions are neither approved nor condemned. They are ongoing and therefore cannot be fully reviewed. In 2019, Pope Francis authorized pilgrimages to Medjugorje "which can now be officially organized by dioceses and parishes and will no longer take place only in a private capacity which as has so far been the case." Read more about that here.

What are the 5 Stones of Medjugorje?

Father Jozo Zovko recommends these five actions that are like the five stones David used as weapons against Goliath.

Fr. Jozo was the parish priest of Medjugorje when the apparitions began. He believed these 5 stones summarized what Our Lady has asked of us through Her messages given in Medjugorje.

Prayer

Pray the rosary with your heart.

“Pray, and then you shall overcome even every weariness. Prayer will be your joy and your rest.”

- Our Lady’s message on May 30, 1985

Fasting

Fast Wednesdays and Fridays.

“Little children, the one who prays is not afraid of the future and the one who fasts is not afraid of evil. Once again, I repeat to you: only through prayer and fasting also wars can be stopped — wars of your unbelief and fear for the future.”

- Our Lady’s message on January 25, 2001

Confession

Our Lady recommends monthly confession.

“The greatest miracle of Medjugorje - is the confessions we have here. The Sacrament of Reconciliation and Mercy. It is the Sacrament of Resurrection.”

- Archbishop Hoser

The Eucharist

Go to mass as often as possible. You can receive the Eucharist up to two times per day.

Daily Reading of the Bible

What is a Peace Rosary?

A peace rosary looks like a small rosary with 7 groups of three beads. The prayer is 7 sets of Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be.

In the early days of the apparitions in Medjugorje, Our Lady asked the children to pray this daily as a good first step leading to praying the Rosary daily.

What is iMedjugorje?

iMedjugorje is a passion project of Cimela, Jessi, and Garret. We felt that every pilgrim in Medjugorje had a story to share so we began capturing them. We talk to pilgrims in Medjugorje and record the audio of our conversation then type it up to share on our website and instagram and facebook.

What is MaryTV?

MaryTV is a fruit of Medjugorje. They are a local video studio that is capturing the events of Medjugorje and streaming them online for free so people can join in around the world. They record Mass daily and also have 24 hour live stream cameras filming Apparition Hill, the Blue Cross, and Cross Mountain. There is a lot of fantastic Medjugorje content on their website here.
